You’ve convinced me that the universe is fine-tuned. What should I do?

These were the words of a student at UBC in early March as Dr. William L. Craig presented his arguments to 400 curious students. Dr. Craig is widely considered to be best Christian apologist in the world. He spoke at a number of venues around the Lower Mainland and always draws a significant crowd.

What is the fine-tuning argument? The mechanics of our universe are governed by laws of physics that do not change with time (so far as we know). If any of these laws were ever so slightly different, our universe would be a vastly place and, in all likelihood, unsuitable for human existence. It begs the question: Why is our universe so finely tuned? Are we to infer that there is a purpose behind it and therefore One who conceived this purpose?

This student has been on a journey and evidently underwent a great shift in her perspective that day. I’m reminded of Peter’s sermon in Acts 2 and the response from the crowd, “Brothers, what shall we do?
